Cultures as Costumes

Image result for Racist costumesI found that all the costumes in the video were extremely offensive and stereotypical, and that those who are apart of the culture are being portrayed incorrectly. As an individual who can relate to the costumes in question, I understand the different ways these costumes are offending others. The costumes themselves are physically offensive because of how they are made. The real clothing these costumes are suppose to look like are made through hard work and effort; and expensive resources. Personally speaking, I haven't encountered such costumes but knowing that they do exist does bother me.

As for the people wearing the costumes, I do not think their intentions were to offend anyone in our outside the costumes background but rather they didn't have any intent at all. They see the costume in stores and simply like what it looks like, they consider it like another piece of clothing; they like it, and they buy it. The costume creators / production behind the costumes are the real issue. My proposal to stop these costumes from being produced is to stop the demand for the costumes. The reason production companies create and sell these specific costumes is because they sell and bring in money. If consumers do not purchase these costumes, they will be left on shelves and will no longer be a FAD or TREND that companies use to gain money. The production will stop.
